SUMMARY:pianobar reloaded
DESCRIPTION:Lisa Ullén: Klavier \nAFTER SUN 2.0 \n“My music reflects a musical practice spanning three decades. I make music that does not really belong to any known genre\, but shifts between\, through and outside various idioms — jazz\, new music\, and more — until a distinct genre nevertheless emerges. This is music that stems from an experience of not really belonging to anything\, of being in between identities and traditions; music that makes use of melodic and rhythmical fragments but refuses to settle within expressions that already exist\, and instead lets the music have several layers where different textures and rhythms pass\nthrough each other.” \n“one of the most honest and realistic musical depictions of human identity ever created.”\nGarreth Brooke\, A Closer Listen \nA native of Seoul\, Korea\, Lisa Ullén grew up in the northern part of Sweden\, and is based in Stockholm. She is a graduate of the Royal Musical Academy in Stockholm\, Sweden\, where she studied classical piano in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Since the late 1990s\, she has devoted herself entirely to improvised music\, in the form of free jazz as well as avant garde and contemporary classical and experimental music. A versatile player with a singular musical vision\, Ullén has repeatedly proven her ability to imprint her absolute sense for tonal texture on whatever musical context she appears in.\nInternationally recognized as a distinctive and uncompromising musician and composer\, Ullén over the last decade has produced more than fifteen albums. Ullén has collaborated extensively with many well-known Swedish artists and dancers\, and has also scored several dramatic productions. She’s also performed and recorded music by contemporary composers. In 2018 she released the triple album Piano Works and Ep Sekvenser och Lager on her own label Disorder. In Oktober 2018 Lisa Ullén was awarded the Jazzcomposer of the Year-prize by the Swedish Radio.
\nViktoras Orestas Vagusevičius is a versatile and innovative pianist\, recognized for his creative approach and stylistic breadth. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre under Prof. Petras Geniušas and earned his Master’s degree in Piano and Contemporary Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna\, studying with Prof. Avedis Kouyoumdjian and Prof. Mathilde Hoursiangou. Viktoras is particularly known for his compelling performances that fuse contemporary repertoire with improvisation and conceptual programming. He is an active performer of contemporary music in both solo and ensemble settings and frequently collaborates on multidisciplinary projects. In addition to his concert work\, he is also a sought-after accompanist for silent cinema. Following a successful debut at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival and participation in specialized masterclasses\, he has become a regular figure in silent film performance and festival organization. While his artistic focus centers on contemporary and classical music\, Viktoras maintains a broad international presence. He has performed across Europe and on other continents\, appearing in major venues such as the Kaunas State Philharmonic\, Belgrade Philharmonic Hall\, Teatro Civico\, and Wiener Konzerthaus. As a soloist and chamber musician\, he collaborates with various ensembles and chamber orchestras. \nwww.vagusevicius.com \nWallumrød/Gismervik \nChristian Wallumrød: Klavier\, Synthesizer\nJan Martin Gismervik: Schlagzeug\, Elektronik \nChristian Wallumrød and Jan Martin Gismervik have collaborated in various constellations since 2023. As a duo\, they take a reductionist approach\, working to assemble different blocks of timbre\, rhythmic fragments\, and textures\, allowing chance to play an active role while maintaining a strong sense of direction in the music’s overall form. \nChristian Wallumrød has worked as a musician and composer since 1992\, and he is considered one of the most prominent and influential musicians of his generation in Norway. Following his debut on ECM Records (“No Birch”\, issued in 1996)\, he has released a string of albums with Christian Wallumrød Ensemble\, all to considerable critical acclaim. The record ’Outstairs’ was rewarded with the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannsprisen 2013). While being the composer and leader of his own ensemble\, Wallumrød also focusses strongly on improvisation with another longstanding collaboration\, the French/Norwegian group Dans Les Arbres\, also with two releases on ECM. These groups have represented the main body of his work over the last 20 years\, and both are touring extensively. \nJan Martin Gismervik is a drummer and composer based in Oslo. He is educated at the Norwegian Academy of Music and works within experimental music. As a performer\, he approaches the instrument in a reductionist manner\, though the music he plays is not necessarily reductionist in character. Gismervik has developed a repertoire and a sonic palette within a relatively low dynamic range\, allowing the drum set to open up in a distinct way. Over time\, his setup has expanded to include melodic percussion as well as harmonium\, viola\, and synthesizers. His artistic expression revolves around combining different timbres\, attacks\, and gestures in a way that remains rhythmically grounded. This approach also forms the basis of his compositional practice\, which has become a significant part of his work.

SUMMARY:pianobar reloaded
DESCRIPTION:Eli Wallace solo: präpariertes Klavier \nPianist/improviser/composer/sound artist Eli Wallace approaches every facet of his musical endeavors (whether playing solo piano\, interpreting compositions\, or improvising/creating with others) with a singular intensity and attention to detail. For this solo piano concert\, Wallace will play an extended\, uninterrupted improvisation. When playing alone\, he marries his instinct for visceral extemporization with his interest in calculated musical premeditation\, planning in real-time\, and using spur-of-the-moment ideas to sculpt the musical morphology as the concert progresses. His musical toolbox on the piano ranges from traditional piano playing to extended techniques\, where he plays inside the instrument\, including on the strings\, pins\, and frame. In preparation for this performance\, he will prepare the entire instrument using wood\, metal\, and plastic objects in such a way that leaves doors open to an enormous array of possibilities; the preparations will be set\, but the shape of the improvisation will be undetermined. Each piano is distinct\, and each concert unlocks new avenues for exploration both in the preparation process and the performance. The end result elevates the instrument to new heights\, transcending its conventional limitations and bringing us into the multitudinous environment of abnormal and iconoclastic sounds emerging from the piano. \n„This is state of the art pianism\, with the keyboard and inside piano work fully integrated.“ – Stewart Smith (The Wire) \nEli Wallace is a pianist\, improviser\, composer\, and curator who resides in Brooklyn\, NY. He works as a solo artist but also collaborates with musicians in improvised and creative music communities such as Nate Wooley\, Cecilia Lopez\, Nick Neuburg\, Kyle Motl\, Michael Foster\, Jessica Ackerley\, Sam Newsome\, Sandy Ewen\, Carlo Costa\, Lisa Cameron\, Joe Moffett\, Pablo Vazquez\, Camilo Ángeles\, Amanda Irarrázabal\, and so many others. After releasing his first studio solo piano album\, pieces & interludes\, he embarked on a rigorous worldwide tour\, including South America\, the United States\, and Europe. He continues to release new material and tour worldwide as a soloist and in collaborative groups. Recent projects include duo releases with Alex Cunningham and Camilo Ángeles\, as well as a trio with Marcelo von Schultz and Pablo Vazquez\, and another with Joe Moffett and Michael Foster\, all to critical acclaim. His work as a pianist showcases his diverse range of experiences\, encompassing classical\, jazz\, and free improvisation studies\, while incorporating contemporary piano performance practices and preparations. The result is a singular voice that Bruce Gallanter (Downtown Music Gallery) asserts “has steadily grown into one of the most adventurous pianists on the scene…His prepared piano work is in a class of its own.” His compositions employ notational strategies to broaden the manner in which sounds are created and the ways in which musicians interact using traditional notation\, textual instruction\, and visuals/graphics. He has written pieces ranging from solo piano to full studio orchestra\, receiving numerous commissions. Over the past decade\, he has appeared on dozens of albums and performed at venues such as Roulette in Brooklyn\, NY\, Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago\, IL\, Bemis Center in Omaha\, NE\, and Cave 12 in Geneva\, Switzerland. Her work explores the emotional and physical textures of sound\, often through unconventional approaches to the piano—using extended techniques\, preparations\, electronics\, tape\, toys\, and everyday objects. She challenges traditional ideas of how instruments should be played or perceived. Blending experimental improvisation\, storytelling\, and raw tactility\, Kasho creates performances that are personal\, unpredictable\, and boundary-pushing. \nhttps://www.instagram.com/kasho.chualan \nLukas König lives and works as a percussionist\, composer and producer in Vienna. He works with the following artists: Moor Mother\, Luke Stewart\, Aquiles Navaro\, Farida Amadou\, Dälek\, Guilty Simpson\, Sensational\, Evicshen\, Mariam Rezaei\, Gabriele Mitteli\, Mette Rasmussen\, Julien Desprez\, Audrey Chen\, Peter Kutin\, Elvin Brandhi\, Malcolm Braff\, Petter Eldh\, Shahzad Ismaily\, Briggan Krauss\, Tony Scherr\, Cansu Tanrikulu\, Nick Dunston\, Vincent Pongracz\, Joanna Mattrey\, Kenji Herbert\, Vini Cajado\, Leo Riegler\, Manu Mayr\, Bilderbuch\, Klangforum Wien\, Studio Dan and many more. and many more. SUMMARY:Workshop: live coding with my frends on da computer
DESCRIPTION:Workshop with Martin Gius (aka. polymorphic engine):\nlive coding with my frends on da computer \nIn this workshop we will focus on the new livecoding language zwirn and how it can be used for networked\, collaborative creation of music. \nZwirn has been developed over the past few years taking inspiration from existing languages such as TidalCycles and Strudel. It’s simple syntax allows for great modularity and a high degree of abstraction making it an interesting tool both for improvisation and algorithmic composition. \nUsing the browser-based editor flok\, participants interact on the same document simultaneously and execute code in real-time remotely on their own laptops. The focus lies in explorative interactions within the possibilities language provides to create music as a networked ensemble. \nAt the end of the workshop will be a public livecoding session that serves as a playground for further explorations. \nDates & Times:\nSaturday\, 11 April\, 14:00–18:00 (Workshop)\nSunday\, 12 April\, 16:00–20:00 (Workshop)\nSunday\, 12 April\, 20:00– 22:00 (Public livecoding session) \nRequirements:\nZwirn is a beginner friendly language. No prerequisites in programming or music needed. Bring your own laptop. \nFee: 20 € per person – Free for those who cannot afford it \nPlease register via info@kvr.or.at \nLinks:\nhttps://codeberg.org/uzu/zwirn\nhttps://codeberg.org/munshkr/flok
