SUMMARY:Yazz Ahmed Quartet -DE/SEMBLE Festival
DESCRIPTION:A perfect Friday night with Yazz Ahmed’s new album: multi-melodic\, layered\, somewhere between jazz mastery and ambient mysticism. The brilliant British-Bahraini musician presents her latest work\, “A Paradise in the Hold\,” at DE/SEMBLE.\nThe album’s roots go back to 2014\, when a journey to her former home in Bahrain led her to rediscover the musical traditions of her childhood — from wedding songs and women’s drum circles to the mystical chants of the pearl divers (Fijiri).“I was able to dive deeper into the music I grew up with\,” Ahmed says\, “music I never really appreciated as a child.”\nBorn in Bahrain and raised in the UK from the age of nine\, Ahmed initially felt compelled to hide her background due to the stereotyping of Arab identity in the West. It was only through her path as a musician that she reconnected with the beauty of her heritage — and now channels it into music that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant.\nYazz Ahmed (trumpet\, flugelhorn)Ralph Wyld (vibraphone)Dave Manington (bass)Rod Youngs (drums)\nDE/SEMBLE Festival October 9–12\, 2025\nRadioKulturhaus\, Studio 3 Vienna\, Austria\nTickets 24EUR: https://radiokulturhaus.orf.at/…/720900/Yazz-Ahmed-QuartetIn cooperation with Radiokulturhaus.

SUMMARY:Butoh Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Molecular dance\nAll cells in our body consist of atoms bonded together. These bonds are in perpetual transformation\, change\, break\, rejoin\, in an eternal dance\, made possible by space and energy. Human existence relies on connections and exchanges too. To understand these connections\, we need space and silence\, allowing us to sense life’s dance. \nThis workshop explores innovative ways to create personal movement\, emphasizing the spaces and stillness between movements within our bodies. Guided explorations with concrete and abstract imagery help us discover new interactions with inner and outer space and the others. The silence between movements is the door opener of new possibilities. \nEach individual is a beautiful and unique form of life\, interconnected with everything. Let’s discover our unique qualities and movements and share them as gifts with others\, strengthening the ties that unite us \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMARUSKA RONCHI\nGraduated in Contemporary Dance\, she met Butoh in 2009 with Atsushi Takenouchi. She studied with him for 14 year becoming his assistant in the Butoh School in Italy where she could practice deeply\, learning and teaching. She met other important butoh master as Yumiko Yoshioka\, Yoshito Ohno\, Minako Seki\, Seisaku\, Carlotta Ikeda\, Ima Tenko\, Natsu Nakajima\,Semimaru (Sankai Yuku) Imre Tohrman\, Masaki Iwana\, among others. Her research is an alchemical process which seeks physical and spiritual transmutation in the matter of the body.\nInvestigating not only the movement but also the stillness\, the void\, the silence\, and the space in between. She travels around the world sharing her dance and practices through performances and workshops\, and collaboration with international artists. She presents her works all over the world\, in Canada\, Japan\, Mauritius\, and many countries in Europe.

SUMMARY:Insel Broetz Festival für Freie Musik
DESCRIPTION:Farida Amadou / Kaja Draksler / Gunda Gottschalk / Achim Kaufmann / Jelena Kuljič / Almut Kühne / Robert Landfermann / Christian Lillinger / Dominik Mahnig / Bart Maris / Matthias Müller / Kathrin Pechlof / John-Dennis Renken / Jan Roder / Johannnes Schleiermacher / Wolfgang Schmidtke / Aki Takase / Kazuhisa Uchiashi / Els Vandeweye \nCurated by Wolfgang Schmidtke\nOn June 22\, 2023\, saxophonist and clarinettist Peter Brötzmann passed away. Two years earlier\, on the occasion of his eightieth birthday\, the INSEL in Wuppertal had organized a three-day festival with international guests – BROEtz 80! – which celebrated the outstanding status of this exceptional artist. The musicians and the audience literally came from all over the world to celebrate these three days in our jazz city. \nIn the aftermath\, Peter Brötzmann and I decided to further develop the unique program concept and establish a biennial international festival for free music. A festival that does not invite ensembles that are currently playing in clubs and halls up and down the country\, but artists who have something new and unusual\, sometimes disturbing\, in their playing. With BROEtz 23!\, which Peter Brötzmann helped to prepare\, it finally became clear that the unique significance he has achieved in the international jazz world is a Wuppertal specialty\, the continuation of which we absolutely want to ensure – through a festival program with an absolutely uncompromising\, forward-looking artistic vision. \nThe idea of free music would lead itself ad absurdum if we stuck to the traditional “sounds like whoopataal”. BROEtz 2025 presents musicians who stand for fresh\, innovative\, unheard paths of improvisation. Where others discover that a certain band\, a certain album\, a stylistic niche is particularly easy to market commercially\, we – in the spirit of Peter Brötzmann – consistently search for new musical concepts and bring them – sometimes for the first time together – to our stage! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Y-OTIS & Nothing Causes Anything - DE/SEMBLE Festival
DESCRIPTION:TWO CONCERTS: Y-OTIS & Nothing Causes Anything DE/SEMBLE 2025 Thursday\, October 9\, 2025FLUCC DECK\nNothing Causes Anything (AT) This year’s DE/SEMBLE Festival opens with a special performance by Austrian Jazz Award Winner\, Yvonne Moriel. We are thrilled that she has chosen to present the new project\, “nothing causes anything\,” to kick off the festival. Prepare to be captivated.\nVincent Pongrácz\, Yvonne Moriel & Alex Kranabetter first crossed paths at Synesthetic Wednesday\, performing together in a free-form quartet set.Their sound? Experimental Noise Jazz — bound by free improvisation\, full of twists\, collisions\, and unexpected harmony. Despite their different musical roots\, they share attentiveness\, improvisational sensitivity & the courage to embrace chaos — always reshaping into something new.For this concert\, they are joined on drums by Lukas König.\nYvonne Moriel – SaxophoneAlex Kranabetter – Trumpet\, ElectronicsVincent Pongrácz – Bass Clarinet\, fxLukas König – Drums\n\nY-OTIS (SE/UK/DE) Otis Sandsjö – the visionary saxophonist and driving force behind Y-OTIS – crafts a unique\, genre-defying sound that he calls “liquid jazz.” Originally from Sweden and now based in Berlin\, Otis merges jazz with elements of hip-hop\, electronica\, and experimental groove to create rich\, immersive soundscapes.\nFollowing his acclaimed self-titled debut in 2018\, he released Y-OTIS 2 and Y-OTIS TRE via the renowned Helsinki-based label We Jazz Records\, with production by Koma Saxo’s Petter Eldh. Otis’s music has been described as an “audio mosaic\,” blending hypnotic saxophone lines\, fragmented rhythms\, and funk-infused beats into a fluid\, forward-looking sonic experience.\nOtis Sandsjö (saxophone) Petter Eldh (bass & synths) Dan Nicholls (keys & synths) Jamie Peet (drums)\n\nDE/SEMBLE Festival October 9-12\, 2025Vienna\, Austria\nTickets: EUR24 https://kupfticket.com/en/events/desemble-festival-2025Photo Y-OTIS by Maria Sécio & Sebastian SteinsPhoto Nothing Causes Anything (c) Nothing Causes AnythingPhoto Lukas König (c) Rania Moslam

SUMMARY:Oberdorfer | Lepenik
DESCRIPTION:Release Party & Video Presentation: Oberdorfer/Lepenik: “Unstable Realism” / Bureau Le Fou\nThe starting point for Oberdorfer/Lepenik’s album “Unstable Realism” is the two musicians’ interest in sine tones\, which\, as overtone-free tones that do not occur naturally\, are particularly suitable for use in their soundscapes. They employ a variety of sound generators\, from historical analog laboratory oscillators to the Pure Data programming language. Videos were also produced for the five pieces\, which will be presented at the release party. \n“Unstable Realism” is the first of five releases on “Bureau Le Fou\,” the newly founded platform for experimental music. The platform is entirely non-commercial (free streaming and downloads) and also serves as a networking and dissemination platform: https://bureaulefou.org/

How instruments are tuned determines what kind of music can be heard and which instruments can play together. The dogma of tuning defines a tonal space that belongs to tradition and characterizes that which lies outside it.\nIn the fourth encounter of its trans-traditional music laboratory\, the Berlin Trickster Orchestra\, together with its guests\, focuses on the microtonal realm. The potential and possibilities this offers for trans-traditional practices\, whose goal is a music that values and acknowledges different traditions and simultaneously seeks a “third” that is neither one’s own nor foreign.\nThe Trickster Orchestra’s trans-traditional music laboratory is a public\, experimental\, and future-oriented working process\, which the audience is invited to experience live from the very beginning. Together with changing guests\, the Trickster Orchestra embarks on an artistic journey of discovery with an uncertain destination\, presenting the latest findings and musical experiments surrounding trans-traditional contemporary music practice in workshop concerts.

SUMMARY:Phenomenal World – Fischer\, Quehenberger\, Kern
DESCRIPTION:There’s a new band in Vienna\, and it’s called Phenomenal World!\nAfter years of crossing paths in the experimental music scene\, Michael Fischer (vocals and horns)\, Didi Kern (drums)\, and Philipp Quehenberger (keyboards) have finally come together to record their first album. The result is a raw\, dynamic exploration of sounds\, where intricate rhythmic interplay dances with shifting notions of time and space\, and melodies drift between tenderness and defiance\, resurfacing in subtle variations and blurring the line between chaos and coherence with effortless fluidity. \nPhenomenal World delivers a visceral sonic journey where the energy of punk collides with the depth and unpredictability of free improvisation. \nPhilipp Quehenberger and Didi Kern previously performed at the MPS studio in 2024. Read more about these two gentlemen on our website here. \nMichael Fischer is a musician\, composer\, and conductor for Instant Composition. He works in the field of radically free improvised and experimental music with a focus on sonic expressiveness. Since 1999\, he has integrated acoustic feedback into his work and developed the analog “feedback saxophone.” He has founded numerous ensembles\, including the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra\, and performed at renowned festivals worldwide. Fischer is also active in performative light installations and teaches at universities internationally.

SUMMARY:movement - voice workshop
DESCRIPTION:Workshop  ŽANETA VÍTOVÁ ] MICHAELA ONDRAŠINOVÁ\nDANCE HALL 3 floor \nWhat does your exhalation sound like? Where in your body does your voice resonate? What do you hear when you walk and the environment around you changes? What does your movement sound like\, what is the rhythm in it? Come with us to explore\, discover and create space for your voice\, body and dance and through them for your self-expression.\nThe workshop is created in collaboration with two lecturers – one with a background in music\, the other with a background in dance. Although they come from different disciplines\, both are interested in the connection between voice\, body and movement.\nThe workshop will be a combination of movement parts\, focused on relaxation\, immersion in the body and making the body more accessible\, which helps to better use the voice\, and parts focused on working with the voice and vocal technique. Voice and movement are two interconnected vessels and we will explore them as such.\nThose who are more confident in their movement expression can open the way to their voice through working with the body and dance. Those who have more experience with vocal expression can open the way to greater use of the body and self-expression through movement and explore how movement work helps them with the use of their voice.\nWe will work with experiential anatomy\, movement\, breath\, rhythm\, voice\, we will also learn a simple song together\, we will improvise vocally and with movement. All without demands for performance or result\, in a relaxed atmosphere.\nThe workshop is intended for everyone who is interested in movement and/or voice and the connection of movement and voice work\, regardless of their level of advancement. Both “movement workers” (dancers\, performers and performers)\, as well as musicians or actors and actresses are welcome. And also everyone else with a desire to explore the topics of this workshop.\nWHEN: Saturday\, October 4\, 2025\, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. (includes an hour-long lunch break)\nWHERE: Radnická 8\, Brno\, dance hall (3rd floor)\nREGISTRATION: to register for the workshop (or if you have any questions)\, please email misharel@seznam.cz no later than September 18\, 2025.\nPRICE:\nsliding scale 1000–1600 CZK (choose the amount that suits your budget)\, after registration we will send you payment information. We will reserve your place only after the payment has been credited. \nWie klingt dein Ausatmen?
