DESCRIPTION:Formed in 1995 by Makoto Kawabata at the same time as the Acid Mothers Temple Soul Collective.\nThe group released its debut album in 1997 on PSF Records (Japan)\, and it was selected as one of the year’s best albums in the The Wire magazine (UK). In 1998 the group played their first tours of the US and Europe. Since then the group has released a huge number of albums on labels from many different countries. As of 2017\, the group has released around 80 albums. Every year since 1998\, they have toured extensively in the US and Europe\, and more recently have started performing around Asia and in Japan too.\nThe group has performed in collaboration with many musicians including psychedelic originators Gong and Guru Guru\, Simeon (Silver Apples)\, Nik Turner (Hawkwind)\, and the Occitanian trad sinder Rosina de Peira. Japanese collaborators have included Afrirampo\, Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins)\, Maso Yamazaki (Masonna)\, Seiichi Yamamoto (Boredoms)\, Jun Kuriyama (The Ox)\, and many others.\nDuring pandemic\, they launched their official Bandcamp\, have released more than 60 albums (including many unreleased materials)\, and have toured in Japan in each year. Musik\, die nicht als Musik gehört wird\, ist keine Musik. Insofern haben die Feinde der Neuen Musik recht\, denn sie hören nicht zu. Was aber die Feinde der Neuen Musik nicht erkennen\, ist daß das Keine-Musik-Sein der Neuen Musik ihr Verhältnis zur Musik definiert. Indem die Neue Musik versucht\, sich von der Musik abzugrenzen\, wirft sie die Musikfrage erst auf. Neue Musik ist nicht nur keine Musik\, sie ist das Gegenteil von Musik. Das Gegenteil von Musik ist natürlich immer noch Musik\, wie eine negative Zahl immer noch eine Zahl ist. Was wir suchen ist der Nullpunkt: der Ort von dem aus die Unterscheidung der Musik getroffen wird. Es gilt\, eine Musik zu schaffen\, die diesen Nullpunkt als Fluchtpunkt umkreist\, und deren Hören ein permanentes Unterscheiden ist. Ein solches Hören ist das Hören des Komponisten: ein Hören das Musik erschafft\, indem es eine Grenze zieht\, zwischen dem was Musik und was keine ist. \nGiusto Kammerorchester wurde 2004 von Erika Litván\, Konzertmeisterin\, gegründet. Es begann als Streichorchester\, hat sich aber im Laufe der Zeit auch an anderen Besetzungen versucht\, vom Violinduo bis zum Sinfonieorchester\, und gibt regelmäßig Konzerte in Budapest und ganz Ungarn. Am 11.1. 2019 spielte Giusto im Rahmen des Transparent Sound Festivals die Uraufführung von Nikolaus Gerszewskis Inert Mass im Theater Studio K. Am 21.6. 2019 nahm Giusto an einer Aufführung von Phill Niblocks 4 Chorch im Feszty House teil. Am 11.9. 2019 spielte Giusto die Uraufführung mehrerer Werke von Nikolaus Gerszewski im Three Ravens in Budapest. Giusto spielte 2020 Werke von Nikolaus Gerszewski mit einem Streichquartett ein\, die 2021 auf einer CD bei flea records veröffentlicht wurden (flea 011). \n2023 veröffentlichte hathut (ezzthetics) die CD Three Works for Strings mit Kompositionen von Nikolaus Gerszewski\, gespielt von Giusto. https://nikolausgerszewski.de/3w.html \nAm 6. Entstanden ist sie 2012 aus einer Klangkunstausstellung des deutschen Musikrates. Kuratiert und organisiert vom Kulturverein On the Couch – zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur in der Gesellschaft. Bisher fanden über 100 Konzerte statt. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf aktueller Neuer Musik.\nDie Idee entstand aus dem Bedürfnis heraus\, professionelles Musikschaffen in die Intimität eines Salons zu bringen. Dadurch bietet sich die Möglichkeit\, MusikerInnen und Publikum nah zusammenzuführen\, sich über das Gehörte und Erlebte auszutauschen. Es geht um eine persönliche Gegenseitigkeit\, die im herkömmlichen Konzertbetrieb nicht vorkommt.

Dense\, broken\, the sound surfaces and structures are continuous\, oscillating between noise\, drone and traces of folk music fragments that remain rather distant associations. The trio gently leads the listener into the sounds themselves\, using memory as a process as well as a research method: focusing on their countries of origin over the past years\, the trio re-traces their sonic soil and endlessly reactivates its language. \nThe music on our new CD is recorded on a cold week of November 2023 in the Benedictine Abbey of Soréze\, during a GMEA residency. The recording takes place in two halls\, that we like to call the blue room and the white room; different in acoustics\, both generous in reverberation and overtones. The space itself is essential in shaping the pieces.We begin improvising without any material or concept in mind. We let our talks\, travels\, the light and vastness of the Abbey flow into the music.We improvise\, record\, listen back and select the fragments that intrigue us. We develop this material\, distort\, record and modulate it\, we shift and reshape it until the final version emerges – the music. \nTRIAGNOSIS \nDie 3 MusikerInnen Edith Steyer\, Edith Lettner und Angelina Ertel haben sich zu einem Erstgespräch verabredet. DESCRIPTION:Sejiro Murayama & Attila Gyárfás \nSeijiro Murayama is a drummer/percussionist\, improviser and composer who has lived in Paris for many years. He continues to carry out tours throughout Europe\, and nearly every year he returns to Japan for a time and holds concerts. Murayama has many releases on labels in countries around the world. \nAttila Gyárfás is a drummer\, improviser and composer from Hungary. Along with his activities in a number of groups including Quelquefois and Identified Flying Object as well as his own Attila Gyárfás Trio\, he performs with various musicians from Hungary and other countries. \nMurayama and Gyárfás have performed together a number of times in recent years. On November 11\, 2024\, they gave a duo concert at the gallery Szerkesztőség in Budapest. The single track on this CD documents a 43-minute improvisational performance from that day. Each musician used a simple drum set\, which they hit\, scraped and gnashed to produce a wide range of sounds. Murayama occasionally used vocalizations\, and longish silences were left intermittently. This unusual and impressive performance was unlike anything heard in conventional drum duos. \nhttps://ftarrilabel.bandcamp.com/album/red-queen-theory \nStefan Voglsinger & Simon Berz \nThe duo Berz/Voglsinger works with minimalist rhythms and multilayered sound textures. Voglsinger filters field recordings\, manipulates live recordings using open-source electronics\, and sets resonators into vibration. Berz expands the sonic spectrum through geological sound experiments on Icelandic basalt stones and live electronics. \nStefan Voglsinger is a musician and performer based in Vienna. He improvises with sine waves and noise generators sent through resonators. He uses open-source instruments for live sampling and fuses them with filtered field recordings from his travels around the world. Voglsinger works across disciplines\, developing performances and audiovisual installations with self-built and hacked electronic circuits. He deconstructs machines and instruments and improvises with various groups in Vienna and abroad. \nSimon Berz is a transdisciplinary drummer sound artist\, and music educator based in Switzerland and Berlin. Working at the intersection of improvised music\, sound art\, and performance\, and deliberately crossing boundaries between disciplines\, his aesthetics are shaped by a sustained engagement with natural materials\, particularly stone\, and their sonic transformation through electronic manipulation. \nLai Tsung Yun & Huang Ya Nung \nHunag Ya-Nung is a multi-discipline artist specializing in graphic design\, illustration\, photography and video. She’s also a musician playing “Suona”\, a traditional double-reed wind instrument. \nIn addition to her traditional music training\, Ya-Nung often breaks conventional boundaries by exploring fusion\, theater\, and even the art of noise. She seeks to uncover the possibilities of sound beyond conventional music\, integrating body movement with improvisational performance. Her goal is to use traditional instruments to create a new “tradition” within a contemporary context. \nLai Tsung explores the audio mixer’s feedback noise and the environmental sound\, and fulfills performances which combine audio and visual. LAI’s video works are based on folk religious rituals and AI art\, which chain the mixed noises and oversampling test tones altogether\, providing listeners a profound dip into the enigmatic soundscape. \nLai has curated the Lacking Sound Festival since 2013\, which is Taiwan’s most renowned sound art performance festival.

Gegründet wurde das Trio 2018. Anfang 2025 erschien der Tonträger Nyctalopia. Im Französischen bezeichnet das Wort „nyctalope” die Fähigkeit\, nachts zu sehen; im Englischen hingegen bezeichnet das Wort „nyctalop” die Unfähigkeit\, nachts zu sehen. Perfekte falsche Freunde also. Das macht unsere Musik aus. Kann man wissen\, ohne zu wissen\, dass man weiß? Im Trio Tetrao Tetrix geht es aber auch um Affinität in einem Dreieck\, bestehend aus zwei verschiedenartigen Altstimmen – die eine von Saiten\, Holz und Pferdehaaren geprägt\, die andere von Metall\, Schilf\, Leder und Kunststoff. Und einer dritten Stimme – die letzte Ecke des Dreiecks\, hauptsächlich Elektronen und Membranen. Und es geht um Unendlichkeit\, aber wir sind zu dritt. REVOLVE deutet auf spiralförmige Klangschichtungen hin. In netzwerkwerkartig verwobenen Strukturen bewegt sich die Musik dieses Duos zwischen instrumentaler Körperlichkeit und der Immaterialität elektronischer Klangprojektion. Klavier und Schlagwerk dienen als Ausgangspunkte einer klangforschenden Erkundung\, in der verborgene Klangräume freigelegt und ausgeleuchtet werden bzw. kontextualisiert werden. Der so entstehende Sound entfaltet sich in einem repetitiven Feld\, in dem Wiederholung nicht Stillstand bedeutet\, sondern Verdichtung und Präzisierung des Hörens. Kompositorisch detailliert ausformulierte Anteile und improvisierte Passagen greifen ineinander\, loopartige Strukturen mal gedehnt und schwer fassbar\, mal verdichtet und klar nachvollziehbar. Wie unter einem Mikroskop werden auch auf der Klangebene Details sichtbar\, dann wieder unscharf wie der Blick auf Steine im Wasser\, einmal klar umrissen\, dann wieder diffus und verschwommen. Sowohl auf ihren Instrumenten als auch in ihren Kompositionsansätzen haben Ingrid Schmoliner und Martin Brandlmayr eine höchst charakteristische Klangsprache und individuelle Spielstrategie entwickelt. Die Arbeitsweise einer kollektiven Komposition zweier Composer-Performer greift diese Vielfalt auf und verschränkt sie in gegenseitiger Ergänzung.

Mit unbändiger Energie bewegt sich ihre Musik zwischen Free Jazz und Kammermusik und hinterlässt ein intensives Hörerlebnis. Ihre Musik ist verspielt\, intensiv und fesselnd und bewegt sich fließend zwischen Komposition und Improvisation. \nDas Quartett wurde 2018 gegründet und trat bereits bei mehreren Festivals auf wie z.B. dem “Jazz Festival Saalfelden”\, den “artacts” in St.Johann in Tirol und “Oslo Jazz”. Auf vielen Tourneen unterwegs hat das Quartett ein beinahe telepathisches Zusammenspiel entwickelt und ist\, wie der Name schon sagt\, zu einer Einheit verschmolzen – zu einer Zelle\, einem Organismus\, einer Amöbe. \nPianist Christian Balvig ist nicht nur als Leiter seiner eigenen Band bekannt\, sondern auch als Komponist und Arrangeur für eine Vielzahl von Bands und Ensembles. Zu ihnen gehören u.a. die “Copenhagen Philharmonic”\, das “Aalborg Symphonic Orchestra”\, das “Königlich Dänische Orchester”\, das “DR Symphonic Orchestra”\, das “Dänische Kammerorchester”\, “Det Norske Blåsensemble”\, “Efterklang” und “When Saints Go Machine”. Gitarrist Karl Bjorå prägt mit seinem Spiel die skandinavische Szene der improvisierten Musik und ist an mehreren Projekten\nbeteiligt. Schlagzeuger Ole Mofjell tritt als kraftvoller Schlagzeuger in Erscheinung. \nSigne Emmeluth\, Bandleaderin und Komponistin von “Emmeluth’s Amoeba” hat in den letzten Jahren die internationale Improvisationsszene mitgeprägt und ist eine gefragte Saxophonistin. Ihr letztes Album „Hollywood Isn’t Calling“ ist vom Deutschen Jazzpreis 2022 als bestes Vokalalbum des Jahres ausgezeichnet worden und der Titel „My Shorthand Modes of Perception“ als beste Komposition nominiert. Ihr neues Album „Händel-Fast Forward “\, veröffentlicht bei dem renommierten New Yorker Label Dot Time Records\, ist mit dem „Opus Klassik Award“ 2024 in der Kategorie „Klassik Ohne Grenzen“ ausgezeichnet worden. Als freischaffender Künstler mit Lebensmittelpunkt in Wien geht Bernhard Hadriga verstärkt des Vokabularaufbaus im Kontext von Abstraktion der Gitarre und erweiterten Spieltechniken nach und arbeitet interdisziplinär als Musiker\, live und bei Tonträgeraufnahmen\, als auch als Produzent und Redakteur im Video- und Kurzfilmbereich \nLan Sticker (*1995\, Kärnten/Koroška) ist Schlagzeuger und Komponist. Er lebt in Helsinki und bewegt sich in seiner Praxis zwischen zeitgenössischer\, experimenteller und Jazz-Tradition\, wobei er oft Technologie einsetzt\, um das verkörperte Wissen des Interpreten herauszufordern. Seine jüngsten Projekte – The Avatars and I\, Sonic Avatars und Joy Against the Machine – verbinden Improvisation mit digitalen audiovisuellen Elementen und generativen Partituren\, um unvorhersehbare performative Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen. Anfang März 2025 erschien ihre erste CD unter dem Titel Nyctalopia.\n“Comme le mot nyctalope dit\, en français\, la capacité de voir la nuit\, alors que le mot nyctalop dit en anglais l’incapacité de le faire\, faux amis à la perfection : ce qui fait notre musique. Peut-on savoir sans savoir que l’on sait ? Musique faite de faux-amis.” Jean-Luc Guionnet\, Liner notes \nDas Trio Tetrao Tetrix\, bestehend aus Gaudenz Badrutt\, Jean-Luc Guionnet und Frantz Loriot\, traf sich zum ersten Mal im Dezember 2018 im Rahmen der Bieler Veranstaltungsreihe Joyful Noise (organisiert von Hans Koch und Martin Schütz). Sehr schnell einigten sich die drei auf ein formales und klangliches Verständnis\, was dem Trio einen besonderen\, spezifischen Klang verleiht. Verschiedene Aesthetiken von Jazz\, elektroakustischer Musik bis hin zu zeitgenössischer Musik werden miteinander 2 verbunden\, miteinander verflechtet. Das Trio setzte seine musikalische Arbeit im Jahr 2020 fort: erfreulicherweise konnte das Trio im Februar 2020 für eine dreitägige Residenz im Kulturraum Les Instants Chavirés in Montreuil bei Paris zusammenkommen\, einer Hochburg für experimentelle Jazzmusik. Das Trio konnte dort seine klangliche und musikalische Identität finden. Das Konzert war eines der letzten stattgefundenen Konzerte vor der Pandemie. Diese blockierte anschliessend die Arbeit des Trios für mehr als zwei Jahre\, bis das Trio im September 2022 endlich die Gelegenheit hatte\, sich für einige Konzerte in der Schweiz in Biel/Bienne und Zürich zusammenzufinden\, gefolgt von einer Tour im März 2023 (Frankreich / Schweiz) und einer Tour im März 2025 in Osteuropa. Im März 2025 erschien auch die CD Nyctalopia.\nAus künstlerisch-musikalischer Sicht geht es im Trio Tetrao Tetrix um Affinität. Es geht um ein Dreieck\, bestehend aus zwei verschiedenartigen Altstimmen – die eine gekennzeichnet von Saiten\, Holz und Pferdehaaren\, die andere von Metall\, Schilf\, Leder und Kunststoff – und einer dritte Stimme – die letzte Ecke des Dreiecks\, hauptsächlich Elektronen und Membranen. Es geht um Unendlichkeit\, aber wir sind zu dritt. Wahlverwandtschaften & elektrische Affinitäten. Extreme. Spannung. Absicht\, ohne Zeichnung. Reibung\, Blasen und Membranen. Alles durchsetzt von wahrscheinlichen Stillen. Und mindestens einmal – ein Maximum\, ohne vorheriges Verbot. Wahrscheinlich\, zumindest. Es gibt auch Lärm. Es ist eine dreiecksförmige Klangskulptur. \n

Im Zentrum steht John Cages Zyklus Sonaten und Interludien für präpariertes Klavier (1946–48)\, ein Schlüsselwerk der musikalischen Moderne. DESCRIPTION:Eli Wallace solo: präpariertes Klavier \nPianist/improviser/composer/sound artist Eli Wallace approaches every facet of his musical endeavors (whether playing solo piano\, interpreting compositions\, or improvising/creating with others) with a singular intensity and attention to detail. For this solo piano concert\, Wallace will play an extended\, uninterrupted improvisation. When playing alone\, he marries his instinct for visceral extemporization with his interest in calculated musical premeditation\, planning in real-time\, and using spur-of-the-moment ideas to sculpt the musical morphology as the concert progresses. His musical toolbox on the piano ranges from traditional piano playing to extended techniques\, where he plays inside the instrument\, including on the strings\, pins\, and frame. In preparation for this performance\, he will prepare the entire instrument using wood\, metal\, and plastic objects in such a way that leaves doors open to an enormous array of possibilities; the preparations will be set\, but the shape of the improvisation will be undetermined. Each piano is distinct\, and each concert unlocks new avenues for exploration both in the preparation process and the performance. He works as a solo artist but also collaborates with musicians in improvised and creative music communities such as Nate Wooley\, Cecilia Lopez\, Nick Neuburg\, Kyle Motl\, Michael Foster\, Jessica Ackerley\, Sam Newsome\, Sandy Ewen\, Carlo Costa\, Lisa Cameron\, Joe Moffett\, Pablo Vazquez\, Camilo Ángeles\, Amanda Irarrázabal\, and so many others. After releasing his first studio solo piano album\, pieces & interludes\, he embarked on a rigorous worldwide tour\, including South America\, the United States\, and Europe. He continues to release new material and tour worldwide as a soloist and in collaborative groups. Recent projects include duo releases with Alex Cunningham and Camilo Ángeles\, as well as a trio with Marcelo von Schultz and Pablo Vazquez\, and another with Joe Moffett and Michael Foster\, all to critical acclaim. His work as a pianist showcases his diverse range of experiences\, encompassing classical\, jazz\, and free improvisation studies\, while incorporating contemporary piano performance practices and preparations. Im Alter von fünf Jahren erhielt sie ihren ersten Klavierunterricht und wurde 2009 als Jungstudentin an der Lübecker Musikhochschule aufgenommen. Anschließend studierte sie u.a. bei Mathilde Hoursiangou\, Jean-Bernard Matter\, Alexander Rößler und Roman Zaslavsky an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien und bei Kenji Watanabe an der Tokyo University of Arts. Bereit im jungen Alter gewann sie den Orchesterpreis der Hamburger Symphoniker. Daraufhin gewann sie den 1.Preis und den Schubert-Sonderpreis im Internationalen Franz Schubert Wettbewerb in Ruse und ist Trägerin des Würdigungspreises von der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. 2024 wurde sie mit dem 1. Preis des Sounding Visions Awards der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Neue Musik für ausgezeichnet. Sylvia Kimiko Krutz sowohl Pianistin\, als auch Teil des Leitungsteams von LIZARD – Linzer Ensemble für aktuelle Musik und festes Mitglied im Ensemble XXI. Jahrhundert. DESCRIPTION:Workshop with Martin Gius (aka. polymorphic engine):\nlive coding with my frends on da computer \nIn this workshop we will focus on the new livecoding language zwirn and how it can be used for networked\, collaborative creation of music. \nZwirn has been developed over the past few years taking inspiration from existing languages such as TidalCycles and Strudel. It’s simple syntax allows for great modularity and a high degree of abstraction making it an interesting tool both for improvisation and algorithmic composition. \nUsing the browser-based editor flok\, participants interact on the same document simultaneously and execute code in real-time remotely on their own laptops.
