Die Reihe die bereits 2010 zum erstmals durchgeführt wurde\, wird von Michaela Grill\, Christof Kurzmann und Steve Bates kuratiert und bringt Künstlerinnen aus beiden Städten zusammen\, um neue künstlerische Begrifflichkeiten und interdisziplinäre Arbeitsweisen zu erkunden. Im Mittelpunkt stehen grenzüberschreitende künstlerische Begegnungen: Die teilnehmenden Positionen demonstrieren die Vielfalt und Eigenständigkeit ihrer experimentellen Ansätze\, indem sie gemeinsam performen\, kollaborieren und innovative Formate entwickeln. Projekte und Performances reichen von audiovisuellen Experimente bis hin zu performativen Interventionen\, die lokale Szenen sichtbar machen und internationale Vernetzung fördern. April 2026\, 20:00 Uhr\nMark Molnar / Sara Zlanabitnig\nElizabeth Anka Vajagic / Steve Bates / Christof Kurzmann \nSteve Bates ist ein Künstler und Musiker\, der sich in seiner Arbeit auf Schwellenwerte\, Kontaktpunkte und Rückkopplungen konzentriert. Seine Projekte befassen sich mit Themen wie Stacheldraht\, Halluzinationen und der „Klang der Hölle“. Bates arbeitet häufig vor Ort und mit dem Radio und hat Werke in Nordamerika\, Europa\, Chile und Senegal präsentiert. Er ist Mitgründer des Projekts The Dim Coast und hat zahlreiche Performances und Ausstellungen realisiert. \nMartin Brandlmayr\, geboren 1971 in Bad Ischl\, ist ein Schlagzeuger\, der an der Schnittstelle von Improvisation und Komposition arbeitet. Er ist für seinen experimentellen Stil bekannt\, der akustische und elektronische Elemente verbindet. Brandlmayr ist Mitglied der Bands Polwechsel\, Trapist und Radian. Er hat international mit Künstlern wie David Sylvian und Christian Fennesz gearbeitet und wurde 2018 mit dem Karl-Sczuka-Preis ausgezeichnet. \nStephanie Castonguay ist eine autodidaktische Künstlerin aus Montreal\, die sich durch ihre Experimentierfreude in der Kunst auszeichnet. Sie erschafft ihre Werke\, indem sie DIY- Instrumente verwendet und weiterentwickelt\, um Klang und Schaltkreise zu erforschen. Castonguay nutzt vintage Maschinen\, um deren Resonanzen und unvorhersehbare Klänge hörbar zu machen. Ihre Werke wurden auf zahlreichen internationalen Festivals präsentiert\, darunter LAB30 (DE)\, MUTEK (CA\, PE)\, und das Athens Digital Arts Festival (GR). Sie leitet auch Workshops in verschiedenen Ländern und ist Mitglied des Kollektivs Technologies of Consciousness. \nGabriela Gordillo ist eine visuelle Künstlerin\, Kulturvermittlerin und Produzentin. Sie lebt seit 2015 in Österreich und hat einen Bachelor in Visueller Kommunikation sowie einen Master in Interface Cultures. Ihr künstlerischer Fokus liegt auf Zeit\, Erinnerung und Archiv\, wobei sie Medientechnologien und Klangpraktiken einsetzt. Gordillo hat mit zahlreichen Künstlern zusammengearbeitet und ist aktiv in den Kollektiven bb15 und velak tätig. \nMichaela Grill studierte in Wien\, Glasgow und London (Goldsmith College). Diverse Film- und Videoarbeiten\, Installationen und Live-Visuals seit 1999. Performances und Screenings auf 5 Kontinenten\, u.a. im MOMA NY\, National Gallery of Art Washington\, Centre Pompidou Paris\, Museo Reina Sofia Madrid\, La Casa Encendida Barcelona\, ICA London und vielen Kinematheken. Ihre Videos wurden auf über 200 Festivals weltweit gezeigt. Erhielt 2010 den Outstanding Artist Award des österreichischen Ministeriums für Kunst und Kultur. \nChristof Kurzmann ist ein österreichischer Musiker und Elektronikkünstler\, der in den 90er Jahren mit dem Duo Extended Versions bekannt wurde. Er gründete das Orchester 33 1/3 und das Label Charhizma. Kurzmann hat mit verschiedenen Künstlern aus den Bereichen Jazz\, Rock und Elektronik zusammengearbeitet und tritt in Gruppen wie The Magic I.D. und El Infierno Musical auf. Sein Interesse liegt in der elektronischen Improvisation. \nMark Molnar\, ein in Ottawa ansässiger Instrumentalist\, spielt Streichinstrumente und Elektronik. Er ist Gründer von Black Bough Records und war Mitbegründer des Pleasure Through Sound Festivals. Molnar komponierte Musik für Theaterproduktionen und Filme und spielt in der Gruppe Kingdom Shore. Seine Kompositionen wurden auf Tourneen in Nordamerika und Europa aufgeführt. \nNoid ist ein Komponist\, Klangkünstler und Cellist. Seine Arbeit reicht von Solo-Cello- Stücken bis zu groß angelegten Installationen. Sein Hauptinteresse gilt der Erforschung von Raum und Klang. Noid hat mit zahlreichen Musikern wie Klaus Filip und Kazuhisa Uchihashi zusammengearbeitet. Seine Projekte wurden international aufgeführt und ausgestellt. \nSophie Trudeau: Kurz nach dem Abschluss ihrer klassischen Geigenausbildung schloss sich Sophie der genreübergreifenden Instrumental-Rockgruppe Godspeed You! Black Emperor an. Die mit dem Polaris Music Prize 2013 ausgezeichnete Gruppe ist international für die Intensität ihrer Live-Auftritte und die filmische Qualität ihrer Musik bekannt. In jüngster Zeit arbeitete sie mit der Choreografin Dana Gingras von Animals of Distinction und dem amerikanischen Filmemacher Jem Cohen zusammen. Sophie hält ihren internationalen Tourneeplan mit experimentelleren Projekten im Gleichgewicht. Die Arbeit mit bildenden Künstlern und Filmen war schon immer ein wichtiger Einfluss auf ihre Musik\, und ihre Arbeit war in zahlreichen Spiel- und Experimentalfilmen zu hören. \nElizabeth Anka Vajagic\, geboren in Montreal mit kroatischen Wurzeln\, ist eine Sängerin und Gitarristin. Ihre Musik kombiniert Elemente von Folk\, Blues und Post-Rock\, getragen von ihrer markanten Stimme und Gitarre. Verglichen mit Künstlerinnen wie Patti Smith\, ist Vajagics Stil einzigartig und roh. Ihr Debütalbum Stand with the Stillness of This Day erschien 2004 auf Constellation Records\, einem Label der Montréaler Post-Rock-Szene. \nSara Zlanabitnig ist eine österreichische Flötistin\, Improvisatorin und Klangkünstlerin mit Sitz in Wien. Ihr künstlerischer Schwerpunkt liegt auf frei improvisierter und experimenteller Musik\, wobei sie akustische Flöte mit Elektronik\, Effektgeräten und erweiterten Spieltechniken kombiniert. In ihren Arbeiten erforscht sie fragile Klangzustände\, Mehrklänge\, Mikrotonalität und die physische Präsenz von Atem und Resonanz. Neben ihrer internationalen Konzerttätigkeit ist Zlanabitnig kulturpolitisch engagiert. Sie ist Mitbegründerin der Plattform Fraufeld* zur Vernetzung von Musikerinnen in der improvisierten Musik\, Mit-Organisatorin des kollektiv kuratierten Festivals Jahresendzeitschokoladenhohlkörper sowie Teil des Leitungsteams des Wiener echoraum. DESCRIPTION:Elliott Sharp ist ein US-amerikanischer Multiinstrumentalist und Komponist\, der zur experimentellen New Yorker Downtown-Szene gehört. Sharp hatte vom sechsten Lebensjahr an Klavierunterricht und spielte vom achten Lebensjahr an Klarinette im Schulorchester. Er studierte von 1969 bis 1971 an der Cornell University\, dann am Bard College (B.A. 1973) und an der University of Buffalo (M.A. 1977) Physik\, Komposition\, Musikethnologie und Improvisation\, u. a. bei Morton Feldman und Roswell Rudd. Daneben trat Sharp\, der 1968 zur Gitarre als Hauptinstrument gewechselt war\, mit psychedelischen Bands\, aber auch mit Avantgarde-Jazzgruppen und mit klassischen Konzertensembles auf. 1978 zog er nach New York\, wo er mit Bobby Previte\, Charles Noyes und Guy Klucevsek spielte und das Plattenlabel zOaR music gründete. Projekte mit Bill Laswell\, Eugene Chadbourne\, John Zorn\, Anthony Coleman\, Samm Bennett\, Mike Watt und David Linton folgten. Er gründete seine Band Carbon 1983 und spielte mit Zeena Parkins\, Eric Mingus\, Vernon Reid\, Joey Baron sowie David Torn. Weiterhin wirkte er an Einspielungen von Ned Rothenberg\, Wayne Horvitz oder Jim Staley mit.\nCLUB OKKULT\nChristian Reiner und Leonhard Skorupa erschaffen einen Raum\, der mystisch\, poetisch und elektrisierend zugleich ist. Attuning to active listening and responding to the space\, a delicate slipperiness between breath\, sound\, and gesture becomes tangible. Magdalena Forster is an artist based in Vienna. With a background in choreography and performaning arts\, her work often follows material-based processes and is shaped by the logic of tactile interaction\, manual practice\, and her earlier profession in body-centered care work. Forster is interested in collaboration\, the dynamics of live and score-based performances\, in what emerges in the moment and remains as sensation\, image\, or fleeting trace. Her often site specific work is closely tied to sonic exploration\, creating intimate and sensory environments. Echo Body was selected for Impulstanz 8tension Series 2026\, other recent works such as Hearth (2025) and Bile (2023) were co-produced with Tanzquartier Wien and supported by the City of Vienna’s Cultural Department as well as the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts\, Culture\, Civil Service and Sport. His practice combines acoustic wind instruments\, such as saxophones and clarinets\, with electronic devices including samplers and sequencers\, exploring improvisation\, experimental music\, and sound activation. He has performed internationally across Europe\, North and South America\, and Asia\, and organizes concerts and experimental music initiatives in Berlin through the label La Mona de Oro and the Sonic Exploration Festival. SUMMARY:Workshop with Luc Döbereiner: Composing Thresholds - Digital Synthesis with Feedback\, Nonlinearity\, and Chaos
DESCRIPTION:Registration: Please register by email at info@kvr.or.at. \nFor musicians\, feedback and nonlinearity are productive because they make systems behave less like tools and more like material. Instead of simply carrying out instructions\, these systems develop tendencies\, thresholds\, and instabilities of their own. They invite a musical practice based less on control than on setting conditions and listening to what follows.\nThis workshop approaches digital feedback and nonlinearity as ways of developing such material. When fed-back signals meet a nonlinearity\, something emerges from their contact that was present in none of them alone: combination tones\, beating patterns\, and textures that belong to the interaction itself. These systems are lawful but surprising. Small changes in gain\, delay\, or filtering can flip them suddenly from one kind of behavior into another and precisely this sensitivity makes them perceptually rich\, in performance as in composition.\nOver two days\, we work with thresholds\, hysteresis\, saturation\, folds\, noise\, and integration; with iterated maps and chaotic oscillators; and with delay lines\, filters\, resonators\, and coupled networks. A central concern is how to listen to what has been built: riding parameters slowly through sonic spaces\, finding tipping points\, and staying with the zones where behavior changes character.\nThe indeterminacy at play is not imposed from outside but generated from within\, through the rigorous application of the system’s own rules. Participants build playable chaotic instruments in SuperCollider\, with working code provided. Basic familiarity with audio signal processing is assumed. DESCRIPTION:Things that have vanished may leave no trace in history\, yet they linger\, subtly\, within our senses. What disappears does not disappear completely — it merely changes form and remains within us. Through the language of live coding\, sofolofo eeks to summon these vanished things back through the act of listening. \nLuc Döbereiner is a composer\, musician and researcher whose work explores the fragility\, contingency and materiality of sound. Through his music\, he investigates the entanglement of social\, technological and compositional systems\, investigating processes of sonic becoming\, liminality and the relationality of sound. His work explores how meaning and identity are both dissolved and constituted in sound. \nTaking various forms\, including collaborative and solo performances\, fixed media works\, and written scores for choirs\, soloists\, and ensembles\, his music frequently incorporates adaptive generative processes and sound synthesis algorithms. Döbereiner views synthesis as a processual form of computational becoming\, where perceptual forms emerge from material encounters. Influenced by a wide range of genres\, including early experimental computer music\, medieval and renaissance polyphony\, noise\, improvisation\, and sound art\, his music is characterized by continuously evolving forms\, states of fragility\, noise\, and turbulence. \nOriginally from Berlin\, Luc Döbereiner has performed in experimental music venues across Europe. He has collaborated with ensembles such as LUX:NM\, Eklekto Percussion\, KNM\, Schallfeld\, AuditivVokal and Vertixe Sonora. He studied at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague and holds a PhD from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. Alongside his creative work\, he has taught at institutions including the Donaueschinger Musiktage\, the University of the Arts Berlin\, the Bern University of the Arts\, and the Free University of Berlin.
