SUMMARY:CoFestival\, the international festival of contemporary dance
DESCRIPTION:co-produced by Kino Šiška and Nomad Dance Academy\, returns with its 14th edition\, taking place from 21 to 28 November 2025 at Kino Šiška and other venues across Ljubljana. This year’s festival once again offers an outstanding international programme\, bringing together top-tier artists\, fresh choreographic approaches\, and a rich accompanying programme of talks\, workshops\, and social gatherings. \n\nThe title of Sonja Pregrad’s solo Object of Dance (2022) sets the tone for the artistic landscape addressed by the works of Berlin’s Dance On Ensemble under the joint name Making Dances. A short solo by Martha Graham\, Deep Song (1937)\, will be accompanied by an installation by director and performer Tim Etchells titled Everything/Nothing (2021)\, marking the first live presentation of Graham’s work in Slovenia. Dance On Ensemble also reconstructed Story (1963)\, Merce Cunningham’s legendary open work\, which prompted a choreographic response from French choreographer Mathilde Monnier\, titled Never Ending (Story) (2021). \nIn collaboration with the Forum for New Music\, the Old Power Station will host the premiere of Open Cage\, choreographed by Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik and Milan Tomášik\, featuring live performances of works from John Cage’s repertoire\, along with Rauch Podrzavnik’s own recent piece A Fold (2024). German choreographer Isabelle Schad returns with her latest piece Studies of Infinity #2 – Nudity and Landscape (2024)\, a sensitive closing to the Object of Dance section. \nFour contemporary expressions of subjectivity will unfold through four solo works: South African choreographer and dancer Tiran Willemse’s Blackmilk (2022)\, exploring the specific masculinities in South African pop culture; Batty Bwoy (2022)\, an anthological queer solo by rising European contemporary dance star Harald Baharie; and debut pieces by local dance artists Petja Golec Horvat (my own private\, Spring 2025) and Bor Prokofjev (Equilibrium\, 2024)\, the latter premiered at the Dance Theatre Ljubljana. \nThe programme also includes a presentation of choreographic artworks blending art and technology as part of the European project MODINA\, where dance artists collaborate with technologists and engineers to create choreo-digital situations\, accompanied by a dedicated conference strand. \nCo-produced by Kino Šiška and Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia\, the festival will also host talks\, workshops\, and social events that invite collective reflection on the programme. \nMark your calendars and stay tuned to the CoFestival channels — more programme details coming soon!

DESCRIPTION:Molecular dance\nAll cells in our body consist of atoms bonded together. These bonds are in perpetual transformation\, change\, break\, rejoin\, in an eternal dance\, made possible by space and energy. Human existence relies on connections and exchanges too. To understand these connections\, we need space and silence\, allowing us to sense life’s dance. \nThis workshop explores innovative ways to create personal movement\, emphasizing the spaces and stillness between movements within our bodies. Guided explorations with concrete and abstract imagery help us discover new interactions with inner and outer space and the others. The silence between movements is the door opener of new possibilities. \nEach individual is a beautiful and unique form of life\, interconnected with everything. Let’s discover our unique qualities and movements and share them as gifts with others\, strengthening the ties that unite us \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMARUSKA RONCHI\nGraduated in Contemporary Dance\, she met Butoh in 2009 with Atsushi Takenouchi. She studied with him for 14 year becoming his assistant in the Butoh School in Italy where she could practice deeply\, learning and teaching. She met other important butoh master as Yumiko Yoshioka\, Yoshito Ohno\, Minako Seki\, Seisaku\, Carlotta Ikeda\, Ima Tenko\, Natsu Nakajima\,Semimaru (Sankai Yuku) Imre Tohrman\, Masaki Iwana\, among others. Her research is an alchemical process which seeks physical and spiritual transmutation in the matter of the body.\nInvestigating not only the movement but also the stillness\, the void\, the silence\, and the space in between. She travels around the world sharing her dance and practices through performances and workshops\, and collaboration with international artists. She presents her works all over the world\, in Canada\, Japan\, Mauritius\, and many countries in Europe.

What do you hear when you walk and the environment around you changes? What does your movement sound like\, what is the rhythm in it? Come with us to explore\, discover and create space for your voice\, body and dance and through them for your self-expression.\nThe workshop is created in collaboration with two lecturers – one with a background in music\, the other with a background in dance. Although they come from different disciplines\, both are interested in the connection between voice\, body and movement.\nThe workshop will be a combination of movement parts\, focused on relaxation\, immersion in the body and making the body more accessible\, which helps to better use the voice\, and parts focused on working with the voice and vocal technique. Voice and movement are two interconnected vessels and we will explore them as such.\nThose who are more confident in their movement expression can open the way to their voice through working with the body and dance. Those who have more experience with vocal expression can open the way to greater use of the body and self-expression through movement and explore how movement work helps them with the use of their voice.\nWe will work with experiential anatomy\, movement\, breath\, rhythm\, voice\, we will also learn a simple song together\, we will improvise vocally and with movement. All without demands for performance or result\, in a relaxed atmosphere.\nThe workshop is intended for everyone who is interested in movement and/or voice and the connection of movement and voice work\, regardless of their level of advancement. Both “movement workers” (dancers\, performers and performers)\, as well as musicians or actors and actresses are welcome. SUMMARY:14 lessons of somatic movement and dance
DESCRIPTION:This fall cycle features 14 lessons of somatic movement and dance\, open to everyone\, regardless of previous experience. Immerse yourself in your body and explore the movement that arises directly from it\, then collaborate with other dancers. \nIn these lessons\, we will slow down\, soften\, and deepen our awareness—exploring breath\, touch\, and body parts through experiential movement work\, combining improvisation and contemporary dance technique. The lessons will also foster sensitivity to the poetry of dance—our own and that of others. \nWHAT WILL WE DO?\nWe will be based on experiential anatomy of the body and other inspirations drawn from techniques such as Body-Mind Centering\, the Skinner Releasing Technique\, and other relaxation approaches in dance. These help relax the body\, expand movement possibilities\, and deepen your relationship with your body. For advanced dancers\, they offer a deepening of presence and new movement qualities\, while for beginners\, they offer a sensitive introduction to dance without the pressure to perform. The experiential part of the course then leads to opening one’s attention from the inside of the body to the outside – to the space and the other dancers. Some courses also focus on the non-violent teaching of contemporary dance techniques according to the current needs of the group.\nThe course is open to everyone\, regardless of previous experience.
