SUMMARY:CoFestival\, the international festival of contemporary dance
DESCRIPTION:co-produced by Kino Šiška and Nomad Dance Academy\, returns with its 14th edition\, taking place from 21 to 28 November 2025 at Kino Šiška and other venues across Ljubljana. This year’s festival once again offers an outstanding international programme\, bringing together top-tier artists\, fresh choreographic approaches\, and a rich accompanying programme of talks\, workshops\, and social gatherings. \n\nThe title of Sonja Pregrad’s solo Object of Dance (2022) sets the tone for the artistic landscape addressed by the works of Berlin’s Dance On Ensemble under the joint name Making Dances. A short solo by Martha Graham\, Deep Song (1937)\, will be accompanied by an installation by director and performer Tim Etchells titled Everything/Nothing (2021)\, marking the first live presentation of Graham’s work in Slovenia. Dance On Ensemble also reconstructed Story (1963)\, Merce Cunningham’s legendary open work\, which prompted a choreographic response from French choreographer Mathilde Monnier\, titled Never Ending (Story) (2021). \nIn collaboration with the Forum for New Music\, the Old Power Station will host the premiere of Open Cage\, choreographed by Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik and Milan Tomášik\, featuring live performances of works from John Cage’s repertoire\, along with Rauch Podrzavnik’s own recent piece A Fold (2024). German choreographer Isabelle Schad returns with her latest piece Studies of Infinity #2 – Nudity and Landscape (2024)\, a sensitive closing to the Object of Dance section. \nFour contemporary expressions of subjectivity will unfold through four solo works: South African choreographer and dancer Tiran Willemse’s Blackmilk (2022)\, exploring the specific masculinities in South African pop culture; Batty Bwoy (2022)\, an anthological queer solo by rising European contemporary dance star Harald Baharie; and debut pieces by local dance artists Petja Golec Horvat (my own private\, Spring 2025) and Bor Prokofjev (Equilibrium\, 2024)\, the latter premiered at the Dance Theatre Ljubljana. \nThe programme also includes a presentation of choreographic artworks blending art and technology as part of the European project MODINA\, where dance artists collaborate with technologists and engineers to create choreo-digital situations\, accompanied by a dedicated conference strand. \nCo-produced by Kino Šiška and Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia\, the festival will also host talks\, workshops\, and social events that invite collective reflection on the programme. \nMark your calendars and stay tuned to the CoFestival channels — more programme details coming soon!

SUMMARY:Lisk Janje Kafka
Ms. Lisk’s history as a painter informs the substance of her improvisations which contain references to rhythmic structures while maintaining a fluid\, suspended continuity. She has lead percussion ensembles and regularly tours as a drummer in the US and Europe. She is the recipient of several grants for music from the NYC-based Foundation for Contemporary Arts. \nBoris Janje has been researching\, performing\, composing and expanding the sonic and musical possibilities of his instrument\, building individualised musical vocabulary with the use of standard and extended playing techniques mainly in the field of non-idiomatic improvisation. He is drawn to the idea of erasing borders between genres and styles and leaving aside structures and forms. \nCapri Kafka has collaborated with numerous local and foreign musicians\, dancers\, poets and other artists. He has been active on the free improvised and experimental music scene and composes music for animated films and theatre performances. He was a participant in the Amsterdam experimental music scene and performed in the series Kraak geluiden. Currently\, Kafka performs in various international ad hoc line-ups in clubs and festivals in Europe and the US. He is the principal organiser of the International Impromonday Festival in Zagreb.

SUMMARY:L’Oriole · Bennardo / Svensson / Nillesen
DESCRIPTION:Maya Bennardo – violin\nKristofer Svensson – Kacapi\nEtienne Nillesen – extended Snare Drum \nThe trio of Maya Bennardo\, Etienne Nillesen\, and Kristofer Svensson presents an improvisation for violin\, snare drums\, and kacapi. Through close attunement and alignment of the instruments\, the group has developed a new Just Intonation mode whose resonant relations delimit a shared harmonic field\, guiding an exploration that extends from pitch into the spectrum and beyond it\, through noise\, decay\, and silence. Drawing on both contemporary free improvisation and traditional modal approaches\, the trio treats harmonic relations and timbral complexity with the same meditative focus. What emerges is music of ritual austerity and melodic lyricism. In 2025\, the trio released their debut album\, ‘For Violin\, Snare & Kacapi’\, on the kuyin label. \nMaya Bennardo is a performer and composer living in Stockholm\, Sweden. She is a founding member of the violin/viola duo andPlay\, described by I Care If You Listen as “enthusiastic champions for new music and collaboration”. She performs new and traditional repertoire for violin and piano with pianist Karl Larson in their Bennardo-Larson Duo and has previously been a member of the internationally renowned Mivos Quartet. She works closely with improvisers\, Etienne Nillesen\, Lisa Ullén\, Erik Blennow-Calälv\, and Kristofer Svensson where she explores subtle noise shifts\, Justly tuned harmonies\, and the close timbral relationships between instruments. \nEtienne Nillesen is a snare drum player who pushes the boundaries of the instrument’s tonal and harmonic possibilities through innovative techniques and a meticulous approach to sound. By employing circular motions and precise control of contact points\, he draws out an extensive range of pitches\, harmonics\, and overtones from the drumhead. His work reimagines the snare drum as a complete sonic entity\, transforming it from a percussive instrument into a rich source of melodic and harmonic material. His interest in diverse forms of music and art has given him the opportunity to work alongside artists and composers such as Nate Wooley\, Axel Dörner\, Christian Wolff\, Ingar Zach\, Sarah Davachi\, Michael Thieke\, Marta Warelis\, Magda Mayas and Sofia Jernberg. \nKristofer Svensson is a kacapi musician and composer from Sweden. Svensson’s solo composition for justly tuned kacapi\, Andra Segel\, was released in 2020 on the kuyin label\, and a trio album\, two skies\, with Maya Bennardo and Erik Blennow Calälv was released in 2022 on the thanatosis label. Svensson’s music has been performed by soloists and groups such as Miyama McQueen-Tokita\, Quatuor Bozzini and the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble\, and at festivals such as MATA (US)\, Frequency Festival (US)\, and Edition Festival for Other Music (SE). \nhttps://kuyin.bandcamp.com/album/for-violin-snare-kacapi
