SUMMARY:CoFestival\, the international festival of contemporary dance
DESCRIPTION:co-produced by Kino Šiška and Nomad Dance Academy\, returns with its 14th edition\, taking place from 21 to 28 November 2025 at Kino Šiška and other venues across Ljubljana. This year’s festival once again offers an outstanding international programme\, bringing together top-tier artists\, fresh choreographic approaches\, and a rich accompanying programme of talks\, workshops\, and social gatherings. \n\nThe title of Sonja Pregrad’s solo Object of Dance (2022) sets the tone for the artistic landscape addressed by the works of Berlin’s Dance On Ensemble under the joint name Making Dances. A short solo by Martha Graham\, Deep Song (1937)\, will be accompanied by an installation by director and performer Tim Etchells titled Everything/Nothing (2021)\, marking the first live presentation of Graham’s work in Slovenia. Dance On Ensemble also reconstructed Story (1963)\, Merce Cunningham’s legendary open work\, which prompted a choreographic response from French choreographer Mathilde Monnier\, titled Never Ending (Story) (2021). \nIn collaboration with the Forum for New Music\, the Old Power Station will host the premiere of Open Cage\, choreographed by Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik and Milan Tomášik\, featuring live performances of works from John Cage’s repertoire\, along with Rauch Podrzavnik’s own recent piece A Fold (2024). German choreographer Isabelle Schad returns with her latest piece Studies of Infinity #2 – Nudity and Landscape (2024)\, a sensitive closing to the Object of Dance section. \nFour contemporary expressions of subjectivity will unfold through four solo works: South African choreographer and dancer Tiran Willemse’s Blackmilk (2022)\, exploring the specific masculinities in South African pop culture; Batty Bwoy (2022)\, an anthological queer solo by rising European contemporary dance star Harald Baharie; and debut pieces by local dance artists Petja Golec Horvat (my own private\, Spring 2025) and Bor Prokofjev (Equilibrium\, 2024)\, the latter premiered at the Dance Theatre Ljubljana. \nThe programme also includes a presentation of choreographic artworks blending art and technology as part of the European project MODINA\, where dance artists collaborate with technologists and engineers to create choreo-digital situations\, accompanied by a dedicated conference strand. \nCo-produced by Kino Šiška and Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia\, the festival will also host talks\, workshops\, and social events that invite collective reflection on the programme. \nMark your calendars and stay tuned to the CoFestival channels — more programme details coming soon!

DESCRIPTION:Fischer\, Quehenberger\, Kern = Phenomenal World \nThere’s a new band in town\, and it’s called Phenomenal World !\nAfter years of crossing paths in the experimental music scene\, Michael Fischer (feedback-saxophone)\, Didi Kern (drums)\, and Philipp Quehenberger (keyboard) have finally come together to record their first album. The result is a raw\, dynamic exploration of sound —where intricate rhythmic play dances with shifting notions of time and space and melodies drift between tenderness and defiance\, reappearing in subtle variations – blurring the line between chaos and coherence with effortless fluidity. Phenomenal World delivers a visceral sonic journey—where punk energy collides with the depth and unpredictability of free improvisation. \nMichael Fischer arbeitet an der Sprachimmanenz von Klängen und ihrer skulpturalen und dramatischen Evidenz im Bereich der radikal frei improvisierten / experimentellen Musik. 1999 begann er\, das akustische Phänomen Feedback in seine Arbeit zu integrieren und entwickelte ein ausschließlich analoges\, effektfreies Instrument\, das Feedback-Saxophon\, das am ZKM – Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe oder STEIM Amsterdam weiterentwickelt wurde. Er ist Gründer zahlreicher Ensembles\, u.a. der langjährigen Projekte BAGG*FISH und M. A. D.; 2004 lancierte er das Vienna Improvisers Orchestra\, das u.a. beim Moers-Festival (D)\, Wien Modern oder der Vienna Art Week aufgetreten ist. Als instant composition conductor arbeitet er mit zahlreichen Improvisationsorchestern und temporären Großensembles für internationale Festivals\, Universitäten u. a. Institutionen. Seit Mitte der 90er Jahre Kooperationen in der internationalen Szene für Frei Improvisierte Musik und mit Schriftsteller:innen experimenteller Poesie; Tourneen und Festivalpräsenz in Europa\, Kanada\, USA und Japan. Zuletzt performative Lichtinstallationen NEON (für z.B. Donaufestival Krems\, Künstlerhaus Wien) oder ColorRaySaxophone (V.esch). Guest-lecturer an z.B. Peabody Institute – The Johns Hopkins University/USA\, University of California Irvine\, Newcastle University/UK\, Music Academy – University of Montenegro\, Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts Brno\, Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien\, die Angewandte Wien u.a.. \nDieter Kern ist nicht nur als präziser und vielseitiger Schlagzeuger der österreichischen Bands Bulbul und Fuckhead bekannt\, sondern hat sich auch einen Ruf in der improvisierten und freien Jazzszene erspielt\, indem er mit so namhaften Künstlern wie Satoko Fujii\, Linda Sharrock\, Saadet Türköz\, Marshall Allen\, Joe McPhee\, Ken Vandermark und Mayo Thompson zusammengearbeitet hat. Inzwischen gilt er als einer der geschäftigsten Schlagzeuger der Wiener Szene. Didi hat sich als ein einfallsreicher\, energischer Improvisator mit einem ausgeprägten Sinn für Humor etabliert. Er lebt und arbeitet in Wien. \nPhilipp Quehenberger\, geboren 1977 in Innsbruck\, aufgewachsen in Tirol\, Seattle (US) und Newcastle (GB). Lebt und arbeitet als freelance Musiker und Komponist in Wien.
