Nothing Causes Anything (AT)
This year’s DE/SEMBLE Festival opens with a special performance by Austrian Jazz Award Winner, Yvonne Moriel. We are thrilled that she has chosen to present the new project, “nothing causes anything,” to kick off the festival. Prepare to be captivated.
Vincent Pongrácz, Yvonne Moriel & Alex Kranabetter first crossed paths at Synesthetic Wednesday, performing together in a free-form quartet set.
Their sound? Experimental Noise Jazz — bound by free improvisation, full of twists, collisions, and unexpected harmony. Despite their different musical roots, they share attentiveness, improvisational sensitivity & the courage to embrace chaos — always reshaping into something new.
For this concert, they are joined on drums by Lukas König.
Yvonne Moriel – Saxophone
Alex Kranabetter – Trumpet, Electronics
Vincent Pongrácz – Bass Clarinet, fx
Lukas König – Drums
Y-OTIS (SE/UK/DE)
Otis Sandsjö – the visionary saxophonist and driving force behind Y-OTIS – crafts a unique, genre-defying sound that he calls “liquid jazz.” Originally from Sweden and now based in Berlin, Otis merges jazz with elements of hip-hop, electronica, and experimental groove to create rich, immersive soundscapes.
Following his acclaimed self-titled debut in 2018, he released Y-OTIS 2 and Y-OTIS TRE via the renowned Helsinki-based label We Jazz Records, with production by Koma Saxo’s Petter Eldh. Otis’s music has been described as an “audio mosaic,” blending hypnotic saxophone lines, fragmented rhythms, and funk-infused beats into a fluid, forward-looking sonic experience.
