Over 41 minutes,
Broadcast2 unfolds as a radical long-term study in sonic persistence. Goh Lee Kwang, a central protagonist of the Malaysian experimental and noise scene, constructs a single, uninterrupted band of sound that feels like an endless radio stream from an unknown dimension.
At first, a dense web of high-frequency
buzzing, deep humming, and flickering ambient noise dominates – like a mixture of shortwave radio stations, electrical interference, and the acoustic aura of abandoned machine halls. Repetition is not a flaw here, but a method: micro-shifts in the soundscape draw attention to the smallest textural changes, as the listener slowly slips into a meditative, yet never comfortable, state.
The tension arises from the paradox
that almost nothing “happens” – and yet something is constantly in flux. Broadcast2 is not a piece for casual consumption, but rather a sonic environment that one consciously enters and whose effect only unfolds with patience. It is music as a spatial installation – without space, without pause, uncompromising.
